Via Canon of the Netherlands and the Province of Limburg:
“The Gouvernement aan de Maas joined the Canon of the Netherlands network on Tuesday 7 February. In this network, museums and heritage institutions work together to highlight Dutch history. The Maastricht Treaty is included as a key piece and tells a story at the Europe window.”
Maastricht Treaty
“It has been 31 years since the Maastricht Treaty was signed on 7 February 1992. In the Gouvernement aan de Maas, the Province of Limburg tells the story of the Maastricht Treaty. A permanent exhibition on the treaty teaches you about the creation of the European Union and the introduction of the euro. The 1992 Maastricht Treaty is one of the most important treaties in post-war European history. With this treaty, the member states of the European Community established the European Union. It also laid the foundations for the introduction of the euro in 1999. And they extend cooperation to new areas such as migration and the fight against terrorism and cross-border crime. On 26 March 2018, the Maastricht Treaty was awarded the European Heritage Label.”

About the Canon of the Netherlands
“The Canon of the Netherlands brings you face to face with the history of the Netherlands. The Canon uses fifty “windows” that take you along the most important events, people and objects that together tell the story of the Netherlands. From Charlemagne to Marga Klompé, from the dolmens to Europe and from Trijntje to the “Leeuwinnen”. Using the Canon as a starting point, museums and memorial sites throughout the Netherlands join forces to highlight the diversity of Dutch history. Together they form the Canon of the Netherlands, or Canon Network. They present iconic key pieces of the Canon in their own context and engage in joint programming and campaigns. This national cooperation is an initiative of the Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem, where the overview presentation of the Canon of the Netherlands has been on display since September 2017. The national cooperation is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.”
