Pint of Science Festival: Are social media disrupting our lives?

22 May 2023 | 19:0021:30

| Spoken language: English

The Pint of Science festival brings researchers to your local pub, where they will tell you about the latest news in their scientific world. On 22 May at 19:00 at Tapasbar Que Pasa, SEM’s postdoctoral researchers Alexandra Masciantonio and Nino Gugushvili will share their findings in their research on the effects of social media in our daily lives and mental health. They will address the question of what role social media plays in our lives and whether it disrupts our lives.

If you are interested in this topic, we invite you to have a beer with them!

About the researchers:

The impact of social media on our civic life – a specific story for European citizens? Alexandra is currently working on how European citizens use social media and how it can affect their civic life. My research interests are more broadly related to social media from a cross-media perspective. She also devotes her time to outreach activities, with the ambition to foster exchanges between research and society.

Nino Gugushvili | Postdoctoral Researcher | Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience | Maastricht University

The impact of social media on our mental health – a story of individual differences? Nino’s research focuses on digital communication technology usage (with a particular emphasis on smartphones and social networking sites) and its impact on mental health. In addition to that, she is also an R & stats enthusiast.
