Are you young and motivated? Are you living in Dutch Limburg? What do you want to change in Euregio? How do you want to do this?
Studio Europa Maastricht believes that it is important to give young people a voice in the debate about Europe. That is why we are organizing an idea competition for young people from Limburg. Make your voice heard, share your idea, and maybe you and your friends will win a trip to Strasbourg!
Euregion Meuse-Rhine?
In Limburg, the borders between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are becoming quite invisible. Many Dutch young people go to school across the border and we know how to find our neighbours well beyond. Dutch Limburg and the neighbouring areas in Germany and Belgium together form the Euregion. Areas that are relatively far from the most important major cities, but that together stand (more) strongly. After all, you are faster in Hasselt / Liege / Aachen than in the Randstad.
The main goals of Euregional integration are to
increase economic strength and improve the quality of life in the region.
Nevertheless, what do you think about that? Do you see opportunities for young
people and do you have an idea to get more out of this region? Alternatively,
are you critical of the Euregion and do you want to discuss a problem?
Then gather 5 – 10 friends and participate in the ideas competition. We are looking for young people who have a plan, which helps to improve Euregion. Just some examples: Euregional cultural / sporting events, festivals, campaigns, workshops, debates, exchanges, and travel.
The grand prize: A great trip to the EYE in Strasbourg!
The ideas competition gives young people from Limburg (NL) the opportunity to think actively about a better Euregion for young people and to develop and pitch project ideas. The team with the best project will receive an inspiring all-inclusive* trip to the high-profile European Youth Event (EYE) in Strasbourg 29-30 May 2020.
EYE is an event organized by the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Young people can participate in inspiring workshops, discuss with European politicians and meet young people from all over the European Union. It is a unique opportunity for young people to meet each other and important decision makers at the heart of European democracy.

Participate in ideas competition?
Form a group of at least 5 and max. 10 young people (between 16 en 25 years old) and send your concept idea until 1 pm on 22 November 2019 to events@maastrichteurope.nl.You can find the submission form here. The four finalists can pitch their ideas for the competition jury on 8 December 2019 during Maastricht Europe Days. The jury will check your idea on creativity and added value for the border region.
Who can participate?
The project group must consist of at least 5 and a maximum of 10 people who are between 16 and 25 years old during the prize-giving ceremony in December and who live in Limburg. It does not matter whether you are a student, already working or unemployed. Every group with a project idea can register and participate. Deadline is November 22, 2019 1 pm.
Award ceremony on Sunday, December 8, 2019 in Maastricht during the Maastricht Europe Days
All registered groups are invited during the Maastricht Europe Days. On 8 December 2019, four groups will have the opportunity to pitch their project idea to a jury. The best project idea will be festively awarded by the competition jury and the winners receive their train tickets to Strasbourg. The competition jury consists of representatives from Studio Europa Maastricht and the partners of the Maastricht Working on Europe programme: the Province of Limburg, Municipality of Maastricht, Maastricht University.
Need financial support for the implementation of the project idea?
In addition to the trip to the EYE in Strasbourg, participants will have the opportunity to find out more about the various grant options for their project. Young people receive one-time free advice for applying for a subsidy from the Erasmus + program after the prize ceremony.**
What comes after the trip in Strasbourg?
The participants get the chance to share their experiences during the EYE on our media channels in word and image and in this way to inspire other young people in the region. Furthermore, they are hopefully already working on the implementation of their project and will thereby make a concrete contribution to a better Euregion!
Fine print:
* Studio Europa arranges the return journey from Maastricht to Strasbourg (by train, 2nd class) and accommodation (in a hostel or similar accommodation in Strasbourg with breakfast) for up to 10 young people. The winning group(s) can participate in the festival independently in Strasbourg. There are numerous educational and inspiring workshops. Participants can get many ideas for their own project here.
** Studio Europa consults the winning youngsters in December 2019 in a workshop on European grant options. Studio Europa will not actively contribute to a possible grant application. Studio Europa will only finance the return trip to Strasbourg, incl. Accommodation and breakfast.
