Studio Europa Maastricht (SEM) has compiled a list of must-reads to help you prepare for the Workplace.
Niccolo Milanese, founder of European Alternatives and speaker at Workplace Europe, published a thought-provoking report in collaboration with researchers of the London School of Economics (LSE). The report maps, tracks and monitors developments in European civil society from 2018 to 2020, revealing the nature and implications of these changes.
Findings and recommendations include: “Empower cities, regions and localities to take European initiative together with civil society: the emergence of a civil society engaged with European affairs at a highly local level is one of the main research results of this project.”

Camille Dobler, member of 89 Belgium and part of the expanding 89 Initiative Network, wrote a comprehensive report on the genesis, scope, structure, governance and challenges of the Conference on the Future of Europe. For a more extensive overview on the current state of affairs regarding European civil society organisation and its contribution to European democracy, we recommend this report written by Linda Ravo (April 2021). It includes several interesting recommendations such as:
“In parallel with the creation of an inter-institutional coordination entity, the EU should engage in a review of the composition, mandate and functioning of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to increase its legitimacy, transparency and effectiveness as a bridge between CSOs and EU policy makers.”
