The expertise center Studio Europa Maastricht (SEM) gives substance to this partnership and is supported by these partners (UM, PL, GM). SEM conducts groundbreaking and socially relevant Europe-related research. What personal data does SEM process?
SEM always processes personal data for a purpose and does not process more data than is necessary for that purpose. SEM obtains personal data directly from you or from a third party who may or must share this personal data with SEM. The following personal data can be processed by SEM:
- First and last name
- Date of birth and place of birth
- Address, zip code and city
- Email address(es) and telephone number(s)
- Account details: login details, social media accounts and IP address
- Location data: logging data, IP address, building access data
Newsletter
SEM sends monthly SEM news and messages to our relations via e-mail. An unsubscribe option is provided in the newsletters themselves. In order to measure the efficiency and relevance of the newsletters, statistics are kept about the interaction by the recipients with the information sent.
Taking pictures and recording videos
During events and meetings organized by SEM, video recordings can be made. Image recordings are understood to mean photos and videos. This will be announced in advance and/or on site by SEM. Depending on the circumstances under which the image recordings are made, SEM has a legitimate interest (journalistic interest) in making and publishing the image recordings. In other cases, permission will be requested for making and publishing images.

Sharing data with third parties
SEM will not sell your information to third parties and will only provide this information to comply with a legal obligation. We conclude a processor agreement with companies that process your data on our behalf to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your data. SEM remains responsible for these processing operations.
How we protect personal data
SEM takes the protection of your data seriously and takes appropriate measures to prevent misuse, loss, unauthorized access, unwanted disclosure and unauthorized modification.
Retention periods
SEM does not store personal data for longer than is necessary to achieve the purpose of the processing. SEM has defined a retention period for each type of processing. If this retention period can be extended, the conditions under which it can be extended will also be stated. SEM retains the correspondent contact management for up to five years after the last contact.
In some cases, SEM has a legal retention obligation. The retention periods based on the Archives Act are stated in the Basic Selection Document for Academic Education. Personal data may also be kept for a longer period of time for historical, statistical and scientific purposes.
