De online content die zij publiceren heeft een aanzienlijke impact op een breed publiek. Desalniettemin blijven hun acties onderbelicht in de academische literatuur.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Catalina Goanta, postdoctoraal onderzoeker bij Studio Europa Maastricht, en&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rug.nl\/staff\/s.h.ranchordas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prof. mr. dr. Sofia Ranchord\u00e0s<\/a>, adjunct-hoogleraar Europees- en Publiekrecht aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, zijn de auteurs van het nieuwe boek&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-elgar.com\/shop\/gbp\/the-regulation-of-social-media-influencers-9781788978279.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u2018The Regulation of Social Media Influencers\u2019<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het recent verschenen werk biedt een verkennende analyse van het fenomeen \u2018influencer\u2019 (individuen met heel veel volgers op social media) en onderzoekt de uitdagingen op het gebied van regelgeving, als gevolg van de toenemende invloed van influencers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/studioeuropamaastricht.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/catalina-boek.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Influencers, volgers en commerci\u00eble belangen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Met hun grote aantallen volgens zijn influencers niet alleen zeer effectief in het cre\u00ebren van online engagement voor de bedrijven die hun diensten gebruiken, maar ook in het be\u00efnvloeden van de mening en het (koop)gedrag van hun volgers. De volgers maken immers niet altijd het onderscheid tussen persoonlijke en gesponsorde content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoewel reclame reguleringen ook gelden voor aanbevelingen van\u2018prosumenten\u2019 (consumenten die tegelijkertijd producten aanbevelen) op Instagram of YouTube, lijken influencers deze wettelijke grenzen te negeren en ervaren nationale regelgevers problemen met de handhaving. De gemiddelde gebruiker van social media loopt daarmee een steeds groter risico om ten prooi te vallen aan verborgen commerci\u00eble belangen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Europese regelgeving<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het boek bevat ook een hoofdstuk van professor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/fd.nl\/profiel\/1327091\/bewijsdrift-brengt-madeleine-de-cock-buning-veel-goeds-maar-ook-kritiek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Madeleine de Cock Buning<\/a>, die verschillende belangrijke functies heeft bekleed in Europese en nationale regelgevende instanties op het gebied van (audiovisuele) mediadiensten. Het hoofdstuk geeft een uitgebreide analyse van de ontwikkeling van de EU-regelgeving met betrekking tot social media influencers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Interdisciplinaire perspectieven<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het boek is een interdisciplinaire analyse die inzichten uit mediastudies, recht, communicatiewetenschap en empirische juridische studies samenbrengt. Het gaat in op diverse thema\u2019s zoals: sociale media, influencer marketing, vrijheid van meningsuiting, gig-werk, platformbeheer en consumentenbescherming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Door de interdisciplinaire aanpak van de auteurs, vult het boek een belangrijke lacune op in de academische literatuur over het fenomeen \u2018influencers\u2019; een thema met toenemende maatschappelijke relevantie.
