Programme 2022
30 years after the signing of the Maastricht Treaty, we are shaping a dialogue with partners in the university, city and province of Limburg about the role and future of European cooperation in border regions. What has it brought us, and where are there still borders to be crossed/paved? These questions are the starting point for intergenerational conversations and the meeting of different cultures and visions. We provide a stage for ground-breaking ideas, creative expressions and inspiring initiatives that colour the European profile of the city, province of Limburg and university. Below you will find an overview of our own activities, and those of our partners, scheduled during Europe week between 7 and 13 May. Our activities are organised in the context of the RE:Generation Maastricht programme. You can find an overview of all these events here.

Every year, Maastricht University and the City of Maastricht jointly organise this lecture in commemoration of Robert Schuman and the Treaties of Rome (1957) and Maastricht (1992). Robert Schuman (1886-1963) was the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and co-founder of the European Union. This year’s Schuman Lecture will argue that it is necessary to detail and fix the notion of European sovereignty and relink it to an emancipatory momentum of, and for European citizens.

Bursting the Brussels Bubble, EU Careers in the Region
11 May 2022 (18:00-20:00)
After an EU-related study at UM/HS Zuyd, many graduates follow the beaten path to Brussels. After all, that’s where you have to be to work on cross-border themes and European policy, that’s often the way of thinking. But working on a better Europe is not only happening in the capitals and Brussels. The many regions in Europe are also working hard on this theme. In collaboration with the European Careers Association, a student non-profit, and the European do-and-think tank 89 Netherlands, we are organizing an evening with panel discussion + networking opportunity in which three professionals working on European themes ‘in the region’ will discuss with UM and Zuyd students.
