
Dr Miriam Urlings
Postdoctoral researcher Studio Europa Maastricht – Campus Venlo
Miriam Urlings is an interdisciplinary researcher, with a background in health sciences and food law. During her PhD, she investigated the functioning of the scientific system, studying selective citation and related biases in epidemiological literature. During her postdoctoral work at Studio Europa Maastricht, between 2019 and 2021, Miriam investigated the use of scientific evidence in European food regulation by the European Food Safety Authority and the European Commission. Currently, in addition to her one-day-a-week posting at SEM, Miriam is a researcher and lecturer at Maastricht University's Venlo campus. Her research focuses on keeping food safe in Europe and keeps her on the cutting edge of food science and European legislation. Aditionally, Miriam is interested in promoting healthy food consumption from a regulatory perspective to reduce non-communicable diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
