Dr Nicole Basaraba
Postdoctoral researcher (2021–2022)
Nicole Basaraba is a transdisciplinary scholar and currently a Lecturer in Media and Communications at Coventry University (UK). She was formerly a Postdoctoral Researcher at SEM and holds a PhD in Digital Humanities from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Projects she worked on while at SEM focused on European heritage and the citizens’ perspective and included the examination of the European Capitals of Culture Initiative, contributing to the Terra Mosana—We Draw the Past project, and co-supervision a PhD student at Maastricht University. Her current research focuses on transmedia narratives and digital narratives applications for slow and dark tourism, preserving vulnerable heritage sites, and public history projects with a global context (e.g., cross-border and multinational perspectives). She also examines how participatory digital cultures and globalisation impact and influence digital narrative productions for more sustainable methods of cultural heritage tourism (e.g., virtual tourism; creative digital place-making).
